Our last OFSTED Inspection
Following an OFSTED inspection on 19th-20th June 2014, Benhurst was recognised as a GOOD school in all 4 areas of the inspection.
Inspectors highlighted that ‘the Headteacher has made many improvements and has built a staff team that are focused on making the school as good as it can be. This is leading to improved outcomes for pupils.’ They also recognised that ‘achievement has improved significantly since the previous inspection. Pupils now reach well-above-average standards in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Year 6.’
The inspectors noted that ‘teaching is good and some aspects are outstanding’ and that ‘School leaders set challenging targets and expectations are high. Very thorough systems for checking each pupil’s progress trigger extra help where necessary so that no one is left behind.’
They report that our children’s behaviour is ‘extremely good’ and they ‘feel extremely safe within this caring, welcoming and purposeful school.’
We are hugely proud of Benhurst’s successes. Our vision to create an inspiring, modern, creative, “out-of-the-box” school that provides the best educational experiences for all children is well underway. The growing demand for places at Benhurst illustrates our excellent progress, particularly as the school increased from 1½ to 2FE in September 2014. However, Benhurst’s journey is far from complete; we have made an excellent start in raising aspirations and achievement but we will continue to evolve, improve and enjoy the experience! We want to be “outstanding” - not for Ofsted, but for our children.
