Year 6 Homework
We will continue to provide home learning through Google Classroom. It is wonderful to see the learning the children are completing at home and to be able to provide teacher feedback. You can complete learning tasks set by the class teachers and make your own Google Slides presentations, Google Docs etc on anything that interests your child and submit these or upload photographs of any home learning which you choose to do. The stream section within Google Classroom enables your child to keep in contact with all their friends from your year group and their teacher. Please remember that anything written in stream can be seen by all adults and children within that classroom. https://classroom.google.com/h
We will create and share links to SMART Learning Suite Online activities created by us; these will be in the classwork section of Google Classroom. The login is the same as for Google Classroom and simply needs to be repeated when prompted. These can also be marked and feedback given by the teacher. Some activities are self-marking and give instant feedback. We plan to share links for either a year group or whole school Monster Quiz, SMART Response or Shout Out Activity. These activities need to be joined and run at the same time as children interact or compete against each other individually or in teams. We will provide notice of when such activities will take place.
In addition SMART have created a Parent Dashboard which they are continuing to add to regularly.

At Benhurst Primary School, homework activities are a vital part of our home/school partnership and all children are expected to take part in a variety of homework tasks to enhance and support learning work in class.
Our homework is designed to:
- Consolidate and reinforce basic skills and knowledge, especially in English and Maths.
- Provide opportunities for parents and children to work in partnership and to share and enjoy learning experiences.
- Ensure consistency of approach throughout the schools
- Provide opportunities as children get older to develop skills of independent learning. This is particularly important in Year 5 and 6 as they prepare for their journey towards secondary school.
If there are specific ongoing issues with any aspect of your child’s homework, please contact the class teacher directly to discuss the matter further.
Week Beginning: 27/03/20
English Learning: Newpaper report on the sinking titanic
Maths Learning: Ratio
Topic Learning: Frozen Kingdom
Reading is fundamental. In fact, it is one of the most important ingredients to becoming all that you can be. Reading develops your brain, provides a window into the world around you and gives you a greater chance to succeed.
It is paramount that you support your child by hearing them at least four times a week and completing their Reading Record. Thank you!
Spelling and spelling accuracy is a fundamental element of being a successful writer. To be able to spell words quickly and with fluency will support children to be the best that they can be. We follow a specific spelling scheme called Spell Zoo to support our delivery of the English curriculum. Spelling homework will be set weekly. The spellings set follow the spelling patterns covered in class learning and include common exception words in KS1 and tricky words in KS2.
It is important that you support your child to learn, practice and remember these spellings. Thank you!

Maths at KS2
The children will be provided with a Maths textbook. These books have been allocated the children based on an assessment completed by their previous class teacher.
Each week, the children will be set one page to complete. The page relates to many different areas of the Maths curriculum. It is will not completely match the learning that the children have completed that week in Maths lessons although there is likely to be some questions that do match. This will give children an opportunity to practice and apply skills developed across the year, enabling children to be quick, confident mathematicians.
This home learning should be completed independently but please feel free to offer support to help your child.
Our creative, topic-based curriculum is studied in both Key Stage 1 and 2 and is inspired by the Cornerstones for Education curriculum. Each of the topics studied is based upon an exciting theme and teachers help learners to choose how they want to approach learning about a new topic. All of our topics focus on developing knowledge and skills through a series of creative ideas. Engaging learning, developing learning, innovating ideas and expressing opinions and ideas are the foundations to our topic-based approach.
To support our curriculum, children and parents are invited to choose from the range of options in the attached letter regarding fun, interesting and engaging project ideas. Children may choose to complete as many of the suggested homework ideas as they would like!
Please send into class any home learning completed so that we can celebrate the ways the children have continued their learning journey outside of school. Children will be awarded a certificate upon the completion of their projects.
