Communication

It is crucial that the school office have the current and up-to-date contact details (phone numbers and email addresses). Please contact them if your details have changed.

At Benhurst Primary, we pride ourselves on our open-door policy. If you need to speak to your child’s class teacher, you can either contact the office and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Alternatively, you could contact teachers via Google Class.

What to bring to school

We encourage children to not bring backpacks into school unless absolutely necessary so as to limit the number of items they bring in from home each day.

All your children need to bring is:

  • A named water bottle
  • A named packed lunch (if not school dinners)
  • Their reading record

Curriculum

We are very excited about the work we will be doing in Year 6 this year. We will be teaching the full Year 6 curriculum.

Weekly Home Learning

Google Classroom will be used to communicate relevant information about Year 1 and any half term projects that are set for the children. Link for Google Classroom: https://classroom.google.com/u/1/c/NDg5MzUwNzU2OTE1

Mathletics – From October half term, Children will be set at least 1 Maths activity per week linked to their Maths Learning in class. The children will log in using their Google login. https://www.mathletics.com/uk/. This will be set each Wednesday and due the following week

In Year 6 children will need to complete:

  • 30 minutes of reading every day – Please see below some suggested books we encourage your child to read this year
  • Weekly spelling practice
  • Weekly maths home learning
  • Half-termly/termly topic learning

Assessments

In Year 6 all children will take part in SATs which are national assessments for all children aged 10-11. These are currently scheduled for Monday 12th May to Thursday 15th May 2025. While we will work hard towards SATs and ensure your children are prepared, we want our children to feel relaxed and optimistic towards the tests.

SATs are only a small part of the Year 6 experience and all we will ask from our children is that they try their best
